Abstract

1,266,963. Elevated floors. M. A. HARVEY. 7 Aug., 1970 [12 May, 1969; 20 Jan., 1970], Nos. 24082/69 and 2705/70. Heading E1W. An elevated floor comprises square or rectangular slabs 1 supported at their contiguous corners by pillars or jacks having heads 4 with upwardly-directed projections 5 which are located in slots or, as shown, recesses 7 in the slabs. The projections are arranged in a square or cruciform shape in plan. The jack 2 shown in Fig. 5 has an intermediate tube 14 which sits on a nut 12 and a locknut 13 and supports the head 4. The jack is assembled with unset adhesive between the tube and the nut 12 and head 4. Any necessary angular adjustment is then made, dependent on the floor level, before the adhesive sets. The projections 5 may have chamfered upper edges, as at 5b, or the recesses may have rounded lower edges, to facilitate assembly or removal of slabs. The slabs have surrounds 3 of resilient material to form air-tight joints between the slabs.
