A free-standing clothes stand unit comprises two legs connected by a curved clothes rail extending between the legs, and by at least one other curved member of corresponding curvature to the clothes rail, extending between the legs. As shown, the unit has legs 10, a curved foot 3, clothes rails 5 and 16 supported by struts 6, 17 and a crosspiece 4, the crosspiece, rails and foot all being of the same curvature and lying in parallel planes. Two or more units may be connected by means of bolts passing through holes 9, and units may also be juxtaposed vertically. Castors 8 may be provided. Legs 10 may be provided with spigot and socket joints intermediate their lengths to allow insertion of extension pieces. Alternatively, the legs may be telescopic. The curve is preferably a 120 degrees arc of a circle.
