Abstract
1,266,755. Orientating articles for stacking. PILKINGTON'S TILES Ltd. 31 Dec., 1970 [25 Nov., 1969], No. 57508/69. Heading B8C. In an apparatus for orientating tiles or other square articles prior to stacking, four tiles are fed by parallel conveyer belts b and are turned during transfer so that one particular edge, e.g. the trailing edge, of each tile faces in a direction different to those of the other tiles. The tiles are turned by means of plungers d operated by logic circuits controlled by sensors c, the plungers being operative to raise one edge of a tile off a belt b so that the tile is turned through 90 degrees by the movement of the other belt b. A first plunger d is arranged to allow the first two tiles to pass without turning, but turns the next two through 90 degrees. A second plunger d<SP>1</SP> is arranged to turn the first and third tiles clockwise through 90 degrees, and a third plunger d<SP>2</SP> turns the second and fourth tiles anti-clockwise through 90 degrees.
