Abstract
1,266,065. Producing Nb and Ta. HERMANN C. STARCK BERLIN. June 5, 1969 [June 6, 1968], No.28609/69. Heading C7D. In a process for the production of highly pure Nb or Ta by reducing oxide with carbon in vacuo, the starting material has an oxygen excess, the reduction is performed in two sintering stages at below 2, 000C. and, between the stages, carbon is deposited on the material by the pyrolysis of a gaseous hydrocarbon such as methane or butane. The Nb or Ta may be hydrogenated, ground, dehydrogenated and sintered to produce capacitor anodes.
