Abstract

1,265,895. Wrapping articles. A. SCHMERMUND. 16 April, 1970 [8 May, 1969], No. 23485/69. Heading B8C. A machine for wrapping rectangular blocklike articles 1 comprises a first part I including means for enclosing an article in wrapping material 2 and a second part II including heating means 6 for sealing the wrapping material enclosing the article, means for passing enclosed articles from the first to the second part, first drive means being provided for operating the first part of the machine and a second drive means being provided for operating the first part of the machine independently of the operation of the second part. In the arrangement shown, separate motors 15, 16 are provided to drive the parts I and II respectively. The heating means 6, comprises endless belts 7 and a roller 8 against which each enclosed article abuts whereby the article is turned through 90 degrees and is deflected along an arcuate path 12 to effect sealing of its remaining sides, before passing to an output conveyer 14. In another arrangement Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), a single motor (115) is provided which operates part I through an electromagnetic clutch (118) and drives part II direct through gears (124)-(127). In a further arrangement, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), a single motor (215) operates Part I direct and part II through an electromagnetic clutch (218). An auxiliary motor (231), running at a lower speed that the motor (215) also operates part II through a free running device (232) which renders motor (231) ineffective so long as motor (215) is running. In all arrangements the motor speeds may be adjustable.
