Carboxylie esters of unsaturated tertiary alcohols are prepared by transesterification of carboxylic alkyl esters in the presence of transesterification catalysts wherein a carboxylic ester of a saturated tertiary alcohol is reacted with an unsaturated tertiary alcohol in the presence of a basic transesterification catalyst while distilling off the saturated tertiary alcohol liberated in the transesterification.
