Abstract

1,265,394. Photographic silver halide developer component. EASTMAN KODAK CO. April 10, 1969 [April 10, 1968], No. 18374/69. Heading G2C. An acidic aqueous solution, for use in preparing a photographic colour developer, comprises benzylalcohol, a liquid glycol of carbon oxygen ratio from 0À75: 1 to 1À5:1 and of molecular weight from 62 to 150, a p-phenylenediamine silver halide developing agent, and a sulphite, the developing agent/ sulphite mole ratio being in the range of from 1: 0À08 to 1: 1À5. The water/benzyl alcohol ratio is preferably from 1: 6 to 5: 1. The liquid glycol may be one or more of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol and triethylene glycol. This solution may form one of the components in a silver halide colour developer package and another component may be aqueous alkali. Benzyl alcohol does not 'oil out' appreciably when the above acidic solution is diluted with water and/or solutions containing other processing components and the mixing time for forming the complete developing solution is often reduced.
