Abstract
1,265,372. Solvent transference of hydrogen peroxide. PETROCARBEN DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 23 April, 1970 [23 April, 1969], No. 20824/69. Heading C1A. Hydrogen peroxide is transferred from one solvent to another by feeding the hydrogen peroxide dissolved in at least one first solvent into the upper portion of a fractionation zone and introducing into the lower portion of the zone at least one second, less volatile solvent capable of being volatilized in the zone without appreciable decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide, and distilling off the first solvent under conditions such that it leaves the zone with substantially unchanged constitution while the hydrogen peroxide becomes dissolved in the second solvent and is withdrawn in from the bottom of the zone. The first solvent may be isopropanol, or a mixture such as isopropanol and acetone or an azeotrope comprising isopropanol and the second solvent, the azeotrope being of lower boiling point than the pure second solvent. The second solvent may be an ester having the general formula R.COOR<SP>1</SP> where R and R<SP>1</SP> may be alkyl radicals with up to 5 carbon atoms or alkyl radicals with up to 5 carbon atoms and substituted with at least one electrophilic group. Suitable esters include npropyl acetate and n-pentyl acetate. Specifications 1,216,997, 1,237,884, 1,237,885 are referred to.
