[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for dispensing a predetermined number of drops into test-tubes or other receptacles comprises two columns 10A, 10B of steel test-tube racks carried by supports 12, 13 respectively between end compartments 16, 17 (in Fig. 3 each tube represents a rack of tubes). The drip device 11 dispenses the drips into each test-tube of a rack in the upper column 10A, whereupon the column is moved to the left by the pusher 18 and a rack is raised from the lower column 10B to take its place. The lower column 10B is then moved to the right by the pusher 19 and a rack is lowered from column 10A. The pushers 18, 19 are operated by a motor (M1), Fig. 7 (not shown), through a crank 21 and con-rod 22. The raising and lowering is carried out by the platforms 24, 23 respectively which are operated by the motor M1. During raising or lowering, the rack is held on the platform by a pin 31 and magnets 32. The drip device 11 is carried by a drip head 11a mounted on an arm 33 slidably mounted on a slide bar 35, the arm 33 moving by means of a pin 38, attached to a chain 37 driven by a motor (M3), cooperating with the slot 39. Associated with the slide 34 is a switch (41) which allows the drip device 11 to make a predetermined pause over each tube, the number of droplets dispensed to each tube being counted and regulated by means of a photo-electric cell device. When the arm 33 reaches an end position it activates a micro-switch 42 or 43 which initiates the simultaneous up and down movement of the platforms 23, 24.
