Abstract

1,265,089. Air filter; separating hydrocarbons and water from air. VAN-AIR Inc. 10 Dec., 1969, No. 60365/69. Headings B1L and BIT. A filter cartridge for removing hydrocarbons in the form of oil droplets and mists from an air stream comprises a multi layer sheet portion comprising at least three air pervious sheet layers of microporous fibrous filter material, characterized in that one of said sheet layers has activated carbon particles retained on the fibers of said one sheet layer, said carbon sheet layer being disposed intermediate the other sheet layers, said sheet layers being disposed in generally juxtaposed condition with at least 30% to 75% of the weight of said carbon sheet layer consisting of said activated carbon particles. In Fig. 3, the multilayer portion comprises layers 56 and 58 which may be non- woven mats of cellulose and/or synthetic fibre possibly with a phenolic resin binder or non- woven acetate type membranes, layer 62 consists of a homogenous mixture of fibres and activated carbon particles, the particles forming 30% - 75% by weight of the layer, layer 64 is a non-woven mat composed of fibre glass impregnated with an acrylic binder. The filter may be used in conjunction with a deliquescent desiccant type gas or air dryer.
