Abstract
1,264,791. Loading and unloading aircraft; platform elevators. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. 30 April, 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 5050/68. Headings B8H and B8Q. [Also in Division B7] Apparatus for transferring containers 30, Fig. 1, between an aircraft 3 and another location separated therefrom and at a different level comprises a mobile elevator unit 1 and a mobile feeder unit 2. In use, unit 1 is stationed at the aircraft 3 and a link platform 14 adjusted in height by pillars 13 to align with the sill of the aircraft door. The unit 2 moves between the aircraft 3 and the other location and feeds the containers 30 over an upper platform 24 to transfer platform 15 which is then moved parallel to itself by a scissor-lift 16 to align with the link platform 14 when the container may be moved laterally into the aircraft. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 passengers are brought in a coach 102 to an elevator unit 101. An extendible gangway 102a is connected to cabin 115a and the passengers walk into it. The cabin 115a is then raised by a scissor lift (not shown) to align with the rear end 114a of a covered walkway 114 aligned on telescopic pillars 113 with a passenger door of an aircraft 103 so that the passengers can walk into the aircraft 103.
