Apparatus for the wet treatment of continuous textile materials comprises a container 1 internally divided into compartments by a plurality of concentric intermediate walls 4, 5, 6, 7. A chute 8 extends radially from the highest point of the container into the innermost compartment, the chute acting to divide the other compartments into sectors. The intermediate walls are joined to the chute at its opposite sides in alternate fashion, and the other ends of the walls define spaces 16, 17, 18, 19 whereby neighbouring compartments communicate with each other on alternate sides of the chute. Each compartment contains means, e.g. rollers 21, for guiding the textile; some at least of the rollers may be driven. The rollers are advantageously perforated. References 20 and 22 indicate tension-measuring devices. In operation the web B enters the chute 8 and exits at 23, having passed successively through the compartments. As shown, treating liquid is added at 23 and flows countercurrent to the fabric over wiers 26 formed at the points of communication between compartments, finally leaving at 25. In alternative embodiments; (a) liquid leaves via chute 8 and is pumped round the apparatus; (b) each or some individual compartments have separate inlet and outlets for treatment fluid, which may be a gas; (c) extra liquid inlets, e.g. 28 may be provided. A squeeze roller arrangement may be replaced or be present additionally to the tension measuring devices in the spaces 16-19.
