Abstract
1,264,731. Intravaginal device. R. R. ROBINSON. 20 May, 1970 [10 Nov., 1969], No. 24325/70. Heading A5R. A device for introducing a biological agent into the vaginal canal comprising: a continuous ring of flexible material 10 capable of deformation to a size and shape permitting insertion thereof into said canal through its orifice 20; and a permeable, agent-containing capsule 14 secured to the ring 10 and extending inwardly from the ring. The arcuate portion 22 of the elongated loop formed inside the canal may be hooked over the cervix 24, and the opposite arcuate portion 26 of the loop bridges the orifice 20 adjacent and inwardly of the hymen 28. The support 12 of the ring 10 is preferably of resilient material, therefore the arcuate sides 30 and 32 tend to spread apart and yieldably bias against the walls of the canal 18. Such wall engagement, together with the relationship of the ends 22 and 26 to the cervix 24 and orifice 20 tend to prevent accidental ejection of the device 10. Capsule 14 has a shell 34 of permeable material such as silicone gum, and, in addition the biological agent contained in the capsule 14 has a substance, such as lipid for slowly releasing the active agent into the canal 18.
