Novel compounds I (including acid addition salts thereof) where R 1 is a C 4 to C 13 hydrocarbon radical and R 2 and R 3 are H, alkyl or aryl are made by reacting the corresponding azetidine-3-ol with X.SO 2 .CHR 2 R 3 (X is halogen). I can be reacted with guanidine to form the corresponding therapeutic guanidino azetidines. Pharmaceutical preparations acting as sedatives contain I as active ingredient.
