Abstract

1,264,074. Building ships in sections; pontoons. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 8 May, 1970 [15 May, 1969], No. 22392/70. Headings B7A and B7S. A method of building a ship comprises the steps of constructing separate portions such as A and TA of the ship on a shipbuilding base and mounting the portions respectively on pontoons P 1 and P 2 of adjustable buoyancy and trim. Each portion is then launched on its pontoon and the portions are welded together after the launching operations while supported above the water surface by the pontoons. Each pontoon P shown is constructed such that chambers 4 communicate with a compressed air supply for adjustment of buoyancy and trim and fittings 7 are spaced on the deck 1 for attachment of support blocks for the hull portions.
