Abstract
126,357. Tritton, Sir W. A. Dec. 1, 1916. Governors, application of; interlocking and guarding against wrong movements and the like.-The tracks of endlesstrack vehicles are driven by separate engines and steering is effected by simultaneously opening the throttle of one engine as the throttle of the other is closed, the controlling mechanism being interlocked with the clutch mechanism between the tracks The regulator is adapted on an extended movement to cut out the governor-control so as to allow one engine to race, the movement of the regulator being spring-controlled so that control by the governor is resumed when the regulator is released. In a modification each engine is provided with two throttles under control of the regulator and the governor respectively. The throttles 48, 49, Fig. 6, are operated by levers 58, 59 connected by pin-and-slot connexions with a rod 55 controlled through rack- and-pinion mechanism by the operator. On moving the rod one throttle is closed as the other is opened. The rod 55 is also connected by pins 72, 73 and elongated slots 64, 65 to spring controlled levers 74, 75 attached to belt-shifting forks 79, 80, which on an extended movement of the rod 55 in either direction moves one of the belts 69, 69 on to its idle pulley 70 and cuts out the governor. The governors control the throttles by levers 83 and links 82, 85. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the governors control independent throttles 89, 90 through rods 94 and springs 95, 96 lying on either side of levers 91. The governors are thrown out of control by hand levers 99 having arms 98 engaging the lower ends of the springs 96. The tracks are driven through change-speed gearing under the control of an independent operator. A solid drive can be effected by clutching the driving shafts. The clutch comprises a sliding gear-wheel on one shaft which engages an internally-toothed wheel on the other end is operated through a hand-lever by a rocking-shaft 102. The shaft 102 is provided with pins 109 which lie in an enlargement 110 of the rod 55 as shown, when the clutch is inoperative; when the shaft 102 is rocked to throw in the clutch the pins abut against the ends of the enlargement 110 and prevent movement of the rod 55.
