Abstract
1,263,446. Borehole logging apparatus. OSOBOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO (OKB) MINISTERSTVA GEOLOGII SSSR. Feb. 4, 1970, No. 5263/70. Heading G1A. Borehole logging apparatus comprises a probe unit 1 containing a radiation, analyzer head for investigation of the borehole wall rocks and a power supply unit 3, connected to the probe 1, e.g. by a link 6, in such a way that the latter can only move relative to unit 3 in a single plane, the probe unit 1 being urged against the borehole wall by a resilient element e.g. a leaf-spring 9. Electrical connecting cable is attached to or within the link 6 which is pivotally connected at 7 and 8 to the two units, and in an alternative construction Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) is substituted by parallel, armoured cable members hinged at one or more points along their length to allow for relative movement between the units. In another arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), a plurality of probe units, each urged against the borehole wall by leaf-springs, are connected by rods as in Fig.1. The radiation analyzer may be a radioisotope source in association with a detector of fluorescent x-rays or y -rays from the rock.
