Abstract
930,073. Determining characteristics of earth strata. KOOLAJIPARI TROSZT. Aug. 4, 1959, No. 26633/59. Class 37. A method of logging a borehole comprises feeding sinusoidal alternating current through the ground, the current being maintained constant by a resistor located in the borehole, the potentials between one or more pairs of measuring electrodes being determined by phasesensitive detectors. As shown, generators 1, 1<SP>1</SP> feed alternating currents at audio frequencies f, f<SP>1</SP> into the earth via electrodes A, A<SP>1</SP>. Current limiting resistors are located in the borehole adjacent electrodes A, A<SP>1</SP> so as to minimize errors due to cable reactance. The resistivity at different strata is determined by measuring the voltages between electrodes M, N on the one hand and M<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>1</SP> on the other by means of a phase and frequency-sensitive amplifiers 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, each coupled to a recording apparetus. The natural potentials arising in the borehole may be simultaneously recorded. Isolating resistors R, R<SP>1</SP> are provided. The pairs of measuring electrodes may be located in two or more sondes.
