Abstract
1,263,402. Swabs. LEEDS & NORTHRUP CO. 6 Feb., 1970, No. 5840/70. Heading A5R. [Also in Division G1] A tympanic membrane thermometer comprises a thermistor or thermocouple junction 20 having flexible, electrically insulated leads 11, 12 and disposed at the centre of a wad of cotton wool 14 which wad is of such size that it can be pushed into the ear canal when the wad serves to centre the thermister or junction and to distribute the pressure imposed on the membrane by the thermometer over the membrane. The wad is nipped between the leads and against the end of a flexible tube 17 of a plastics material through which the leads extend. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, the wad is secured to a plastics tubing 24 adhered to the exterior of the tube 17. The junction 20 is held at the distal end of the tube by a thermally conductive cement 26.
