Abstract

1433836 Ear plugs P H KITTRE 10 Nov 1973 52266/73 Heading A5R An earplug 14 comprises an elongated, acoustically absorbent, conformable body (10) Fig. 6, (not shown), located within a flexible, water-impervious film (12), said film adhering to the exterior surface of said body and having a plurality of longitudinally extending channels 20 on its exterior surface, and a handle in the form of a flange 24 formed on end 18 of said body. The body 10 comprises silicone putty having a degree of malleability which is substantially constant over a temperature range of from at least about 10‹C to about 75‹C. The film (12), which is of polyethylene and has a thickness of less than about one mil, is tied at end 18 of body (10) with a thermoplastics tie member 22, leaving a fringe (23) Fig. 5, (not shown), extending beyond the tie. The fringe (23) is fused together with a portion of said tie in order to form said flange 24.
