Abstract

1,263,357. Frequency modulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 11 July, 1969, No. 35067/69. Heading H3R. A linear frequency modulating arrangement for a UHF oscillator 1 comprises: means CR1 for applying a modulation signal, e.g. a sawtooth, to the oscillator 1; means 3 for sampling the oscillator output; means 6 for heterodyning the sample frequency to obtain a lower frequency ; a frequency divider 8; a linear discriminator 9; and means R1, R2 for combining the discriminator output with the modulating signal. As described, the means for heterodyning includes a mixer 6 which is fed with a signal derived from a VHF oscillator 4 via a multiplier 5 which multiplies the VHF frequency to a UHF frequency less than the lowest frequency of oscillator 1. The output from the mixer is then fed to flip-flop type divider 8 which produces a squarewave output which is fed to a CR network discriminator 9.
