Abstract
1,263,354. Travelling band press filter. H. GUJER. 2 July, 1969 [2 July, 1968], No. 33471/69. Heading BID. A filter comprises two vertically oriented endless belts covered by filtering cloth, between whose opposed, downwardly travelling runs is defined a wedge-like space wherein material is pressed, each belt comprising a series of plates, made of polyoxymethylene, articulated together and presenting vertical ribs 2, on whose free edges the cloth is supported and which define therebetween drainage grooves (i) down which filtrate runs to impinge on the inclined transverse lip 5 which closes the upper ends of the grooves of the plate below. Filtrate flows down lip 5 and through apertures in the bases of grooves (1) adjacent thereto. The lower ends 7 of ribs 2 are inclined to match lip 5, but when the belt passes round return rollers below the pressing zone (Fig. 4, not shown), a tapering gap defined between the lip 5 and ends 7 draws residual filtrate away from the cloth and prevents it re-entering the filter cake being discharged. The faces of the plates opposite ribs 2 are reinforced by longitudinal ribs (11) and ribs 2 are penetrated by aligned apertures 8 to prevent formation of vacuum in the grooves (1) (Fig. 2, not shown).
