Abstract

1,051,528. Travelling band filter. EIMCO CORPORATION. July 26, 1965 [Aug. 14, 1964], No. 31700/65. Heading B1D [Also in Division B8] In a travelling band filter, the endless filter web 26 is supported, where it overlies a vacuum pan 21, by a plurality of impervious flexible endless drainage belts 19, which are entrained about horizontal parallel rollers 16, 17 and are slightly spaced to leave gaps (Fig. 4, not shown) whereby filtrate drains into the vacuum pan. Slurry is delivered to the web 26 by a weir box 37 at one end and dried material is removed by a blade 36 engaging the other end, this end extending beyond the roller 17. The web 26 passes over rollers 33, 34 and under a back washing conduit 47, the wash water being collected in a trough 48. Each belt 19 is transversely grooved as shown to facilitate drainage and each has a downwardly extending ridge (51) (Fig. 4, not shown), which engages in a correspondingly grooved fixed track member (52) the track members overlying the pan 21 and being made of polyethylene, polypropylene, or polytetrafluoroethylene, and means (56), (57), (58) being arranged to introduce lubricating water into the space between ridges (51) and the grooves in members (52), the ridges (51) being slightly tapered. Where members (52) extend beyond the edge of the vacuum pan 21 (Fig. 6, not shown) sealing blocks (73) are fitted to engage in the spaces between adjacent belts 19. Tracking grooves similar to those in members 52 may be provided in rollers 16, 17 whose surfaces may be formed of rubber. Vacuum pan 21 has a lower filtrate outlet 22 to a pump 23 and an upper air outlet leading to a vacuum pump.
