Abstract

1,263,243. Monitoring flames photoelectrically. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. May 19, 1969 [Feb.17, 1968], No.7894/68. Heading G1A. A flame monitor comprises a photo-cell shielded by a filter designed to pass only a limited wavelength range so that flame radiation can be distinguished from other radiation. The filter is preferably cyan and the photo-cell controls the operation of a trigger circuit which operates an alarm or shut-down system. As shown, when photo-cell V1 is illuminated the voltage on trigger tube V2 rises until it conducts and operates relay contacts B1 to light neon indicator N3. If the flame goes out, tube V2 will extinguish when the supply voltage falls to zero and relay contact will changeover causing the alarm neon N4 to be lit and the external circuit connected at point A to be energized.
