In a continuous feed weigher the amount of material fed from a hopper 2 to a conveyer belt 4 is metered by a gate 6 which is controlled by the out of balance of a pivoted weigh-beam 5 upon which the conveyer is disposed in a manner such that the tension in the conveyer belt remains constant during pivotal movements of the weigh-beam. The conveyer may be arranged so that its upper run has a forward position which is substantially horizontal and a rearward portion inclined downwardly from the horizontal portion, the junction between the two portions being located near the pivot axis of the weigh-beam. The lower run of the conveyer may pass over a roller at the center of the weighbeam. The weigher may have stops 14 to limit pivotal movement of the weigh-beam, a plate 18 giving support to the conveyer as it passes under the hopper outlet 3, a scraper 23 which acts upon the lower run of the conveyer, a post 15 upon which weights may be placed to adjust the balance of the weigh-beam and hence the flow rate of material, and a counterbalance beam 17 for balancing the beam about the pivot axis. A trim weight 24 provides fine adjustment for the weigh-beam and a micro-switch 21 actuates the motor 20 of the gate 6 in response to pivotal movement of the weigh-beam.
