Abstract

1,262,659. Rollers. WOODVILLE RUBBER CO. Ltd., and C. H. ARROWSMITH. 5 Jan., 1970 [4 Jan., 1969], No. 681/69. Heading F2U. A roller comprising a metal core in an inner sleeve of synthetic (preferably silicone) rubber in an outer sleeve of a synthetic polymer (e.g. fluorinated ethylene propylene) is made by the following steps in order: cleaning the core surface (e.g. by degreasing and sandblasting), applying a rubber layer, rolling to size, heat curing under pressure in a mould, trimming the rubber, heat curing a second time, grinding to size, cleaning the ground surface, applying two coatings of suitable adhesive, then heat shrinking the polymer sleeve, heat curing again and trimming the polymer sleeve, the polymer sleeve, before being heat shrunk on to the rubber having been first heat shrunk on to a glass tube and stacked. Heating processes are also described.
