Abstract
1,262,477. Testing yarn electrically. WOOL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Nov. 26, 1969 [Dec. 14, 1968], No. 59589/68. Addition to 1,185,024. Heading G1N. In apparatus for determining the breaking strength of yarn wherein a predetermined length of the yarn is extended to breaking point by a movable rod as described in parent Specification, the test length of yarn is determined by two fixed electromagnetic clamps 5, 6, Fig. 1a, each comprising a solenoid coil 32, Fig. 3, with a fixed core 25 and a movable core 26 which mates with a fixed endplate 28. The stress on the yarn is measured by strain gauges mounted on the rod attached to hook 4. In a modification, Fig. 2, one clamp 5 is mounted on a canti lever spring 40 fitted with strain gauges 42 and the other clamp 6 is mounted for movement away from clamp 5.
