Abstract

1,262,424. Signalling over power lines. COMPAGNIE DES COMPTEURS. 10 Feb., 1970 [10 Feb., 1969], No. 6323/70. Heading H4R. [Also in Division G4] A receiver adapted to selectively respond to control signals on a line carrying alternating current comprises means adapted to detect control signals, means adapted to produce pulses derived from an alternating current received between two control signals and means to count the number of pulses produced and to selectively respond in accordance therewith. As described, the control signals are bursts of voice frequency superimposed on a 50 c/s. power signal. The detector includes filter (in the form of a transistor amplifier with negative feedback) for filtering out the control signals, a first monostable circuit arranged to respond only to a long burst (start signal), a bi-stable set in response to the detection of such long burst and arranged when set to remove an enabling signal from a gate which supplies the control signals to the first monostable and to supply an enabling signal to a second gate passing the control signals to a second monostable arranged to respond to a shorter burst (stop signal) yet not to a very short burst (noise), a shaping circuit arranged to receive the 50 c/s. signal and to derive therefrom a train of square pulses at a frequency which is a sub-multiple of the received signal, a wiper switch counter having tens and units switches in cascade, a matrix of orthogonal conductors scanned by the counter by marking a column and a row conductor by the tens and units switches respectively for each count and for each point of the matrix an AND gate which responds only when its row and column conductors are both marked and a stop signal is being received. Pairs of AND gates are used to turn on and off corresponding devices to be controlled. The shaping circuit comprises a resistive attenuating network, a rectifying and pulse-squaring network, a differentiating network, a frequency divider and a further pulsesquaring circuit.
