Abstract

1,262,405. X-ray tubes. SIEMENS A.G. 22 July, 1970 [23 July, 1969], No. 35600/70. Heading H1D. The anode of a rotary anode X-ray tube is provided with recesses which intercept any direct radial path from the axis of rotation to an annular target portion of the anode. In Fig. 2 the graphite anode 10 is provided with spiral slots 17 which terminate in radial slots 18 extending below the target area; the target 13 is seen only partly in Fig. 2 as it comprises a tungsten ring which fits into an annular slot provided in the opposite face of the graphite support member. When the target is a thin ring, Fig. 8 (not shown), the support may be provided with spiral recesses on each face which are interleaved with each other. When the target surrounds the circumference of the support like a tyre, the support may comprise separate elements; these may be in the form of spokes with the spaces between them forming the required spiral recesses (Fig. 7, not shown), or in the form of wedge-shaped members with chordal slots extending alternately from each edge (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). In another arrangement (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) the target comprises a molybdenum plate coated near its edge with a tungsten-rhenium alloy which forms the target portion, and spiral slots are provided in the central portion. In a further arrangement (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the target comprises a plate of tungsten alloyed with 0-1% iridium and its central part includes four staggered rings of circumferential slots.
