A soft solder flux comprises a resin base and an activator consisting of a hydrohalide of at least one organic amine of the general formula The resin is preferably colophony and the hydrohalide is preferably the hydrochloride, present in an amount equivalent to 0À2-1À5% halogen. Suitable X substituents are acetonitrile and propionitrile, methyl or ethyl acetate or propionate. Suitable Z substituents may be dialkyl ether groups such as diethyl ether groups. The substituted amines may be morpholine-N-acetonitrile or morphreline-N- methyl acetate. The flux is preferably used as a core in an Sn-Pb wire solder.
