Abstract

1,262,085. Pocket inhalers. FISONS PHARMACEUTICALS Ltd. 20 May, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 27210/68. Addition to 1,122,284. Heading AST. A device for inhaling powdered medicaments comprises a propeller-like member 4 having vanes 5, a shaft 3 and a medicament container receiving portion, the shaft 3 of the member 4 being journalled in a tapered bearing 2 fixed to a two part housing 7 and, 8. The housing which has a mouthpiece 8, has passageways 9 and 11 at each end. On the passage of air through the housing towards passageways 9, the vanes 5 cause the member 4 to rotate, and during rotation the particular construction of the bearing 2 causes the member 4 to precess about the bearing axis. A non return flap 19 prevents exhalation through the device. A threaded cap (17), Fig. 3 (not shown) may be placed over the housing, and a base piece 14 screwed to the cap, causing a locking member 13 to contact the medicament container and hold it in position. A squeeze bulb may also be used to provide the current of air.
