Abstract

1,262,074. Shaft seals. MORGANITE CARBON Ltd. 29 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 20447/68. Heading F2B. In sealing means for the vertical shaft 2 of a spin drier comprising a counter face ring 5 which is held between radial flanges 3, 4 of a rubber sleeve 1 and has a sealing face for engaging a complementary face on a sealing ring (not shown) fixed to the shaft, the sleeve is extended upwardly as at 6 beyond the upper flange 4 to form a liquid reservoir 7. In use, some of the extracted water is collected in the reservoir 7 and acts as a coolant for the seal when the bulk of the extracted water has been removed from the drier drum.
