Abstract

1,261,514. Toothed gearing. MINIATURE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS Ltd. 17 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 8499/68. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division H1] The sliding contact of a potentiometer is mounted on a toothed wheel 12 which is engaged by a worm drive on a shaft 13 to move the contact along an arcuate resistance track. As shown, the worm drive comprises a flexible, resilient wire helix 14 carried around a reduced diameter portion 13F of the shaft 13. When the contact (17A), (Figs. 2, 3, not shown), abuts a stop (22) at either end of the resistance track, further rotation of the shaft 13 causes the wire helix 14 to flex and ride over the teeth of the wheel 12 thus preventing excess force on the contact at the ends of its traverse.
