Abstract

1,259,946. Hydraulic system; warning devices. S. C. BANKS. 21 Jan., 1970 [21 Oct., 1968], No. 49834/68. Headings F2E and F2F. A hydraulic vehicle braking system comprises a master cylinder 1 and front and rear brake cylinders 8, 9 respectively and interposed between them is a cylinder assembly 3 comprising cylinders 4, 5 and pistons 16, 17 for isolating the parts of the system which lie on opposite sides of the respective pistons 16, 17. The pistons 16, 17 are sealed relative to the cylinders 4, 5 by two spaced rubber lip seals 18, 19, and are biased by springs 23, 24. The cylinder housing 10 has a central bleed duct 12 connected by bores 33, 34 to the inlet sides of pistons 16, 17 and on releasing a bleed valve plug 42 fluid bleeds from both sides of the respective pistons 16 and 17 via bores 37, 38, 39. Tappings 27, 28, 29 are provided for fitting of pressure switch probes (31) to control corresponding indicator lights (32). Each brake may have its own individual piston cylinder assembly, and for the sake of safety a single piston-cylinder assembly may be associated with both front brakes.
