Abstract

1,259,931. Yarn storage and feeding device. K. I. J. ROSEN. 25 Feb., 1970 [26 Feb., 1969], No. 9123/70. Heading DIJ. A yarn storing and feeding device for feeding a yarn from a bobbin to a working place on a textile machine comprises a storing drum 3 for receiving a yarn supply V and a control ring 6 for limiting the supply of yarn stored on the drum, the control ring 6 having radial arms 6a extending through longitudinal openings 4 in the wall of the drum and causing the yarn supply V to be fed along the wall of the drum, the device being characterised in that the outer ends of the arms 6a are connected by a closed ring 9 which surrounds the wall of the storing drum 3. The ring 9 is constituted by a web sloping upwards and outwards from the ring 6, in the direction opposite to the feed of the yarn supply V. The control ring 6 is inclined about the axis 5 and is spring urged in the inclined position. The control ring 6 preferably comprises a one-piece construction consisting of a circular plate with a deflected outer edge within which is arranged a circle of trapezium-shaped recesses between which are defined the arms. In operation, yarn F is fed from a bobbin to the storing drum 3 which is preferably rotated by an electromotor 11. The inclined control ring 6 feeds the yarn on to the surface of the drum and the yarn supply V moves down the wall of the drum. The closed ring 9 prevents snagging of the yarn on the arms 6a. When the build-up of yarn supply V overcomes the spring pressure on the control ring 6, the ring 6 is pushed back from its inclined position and operates a switch to stop the electromotor 11. Yarn is drawn off from the yarn supply V and when the spring pressure on the control ring is sufficient to return the ring to its inclined position, the ring tilts and operates a switch to start the electromotor 11. This arrangement is suitable for intermittent yarn demands. The drum 3 need not be rotated, and the yarn could be fed from the yarn supply V continuously.
