Abstract

1,259,892. Electromagnetic relays. UNITEDCARR Inc. 7 Jan., 1969 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1015/69. Heading H1N. [Also in Division G4] A flasher unit for energizing direction signal lamps and hazard warning lamps of an automobile (see Division G4) comprises relays 31 and 36 having armatures 33, 37, a series resistor 42 and capacitor 41, battery terminals 28, 29 and an output terminal 11. These components are mounted on an insulating base 49 (Fig. 2), the relay 31 having a leaf-spring C-shape armature 33. The operation of the flasher unit 10 is provided by charging and discharging of the capacitor 41. If when a turn signal is selected by switch 12 one of the direction signal lamps 18, 19 fails then the current through the coil 38 of relay 36 is insufficient for the flasher to operate so that the remaining signal lamp and pilot lamp 20 or 21 are continuously illuminated to indicate this fault. Temperature compensation is provided by a thermistor 45 and a bleed resistor 47 may be additionally connected to discharge the capacitor 41.
