Abstract
1,259,443. Filling cartons. AKERLUND & RAUSING AB. 15 June, 1970 [20 June, 1969], No. 28923/70. Heading B8C. Cartons 11 to be filled from a nozzle at a station 12 have their front and rear walls 16 and 16a pressed together by fingers 36 so that a side wall 14 is bowed outwardly to facilitate the filling operation. The cartons are moved in a U- shaped path by holders 31 supported on an endless carrier comprising a pair of chains (25), 26 trained around lower and upper driven sprocket wheels (27), 28 journalled on a frame 29. The cartons are radially restrained in the curved part of the path by a rail 34. The fingers 36 rotate with the upper sprocket wheel 25, and the gripping action of each pair of fingers on a carton is accomplished by a fixed eccentric cam track 47 engaged by a follower 46 which is connected to the fingers by links 44 and 45. Adjacent fingers of adjacent pairs of fingers are pivoted on the same pin to minimize the total number of pivots required. The carton side walls may be appropriately stressed during manufacture so that they have a natural tendency to bow outwardly when the front and rear walls are pressed together. The cartons may be filled with strawberries and their juice.
