Abstract
1,259,198. Stud and socket fastenings. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 21 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968; 17 Feb., 1969], No. 14918/69. Heading E2B. [Also in Divisions A4 and F2] The specification describes fastenings 15, 34 for a vehicle seat support structure which has a deformable front panel support 18 constituting at least part of energy absorption means forming part of the seat support structure and providing controlled energy absorption in event of abnormally high deceleration of the vehicle. The rear beam 3 of the support structure has slidable ring connectors 31 with pins 33 which locate in a coupling device 34 slidable in a channel track 32 in the floor, such as, of an aircraft train or bus. The front panel may bend under high deceleration (Fig. 2 not shown) or may collapse (Fig. 8a, not shown), or may hinge (Fig. 9b not shown). The energy absorption means may include a compressive type 19 (Fig. 3, not shown) or tensile types located in diagonal supports or rear legs of the seat support (Figs. 6, 7 or 9 not shown). The front panel support may be formed as struts.
