Abstract

A cable, wire or rope drum is characterized in that each end flange is formed from a pair of pressed steel annuli 22, 23 each of dished shape with an integral peripheral rim 25, 24, which on one pressing is of slightly greater radius than that of the other, the pressings being assembled in opposed relationship to form an annulus having a hollow interior with the rim 24 of larger radius operating to hold the pressings in their assembled relationship. The pressings constituting the end flange may extend radially inwards to the hub 20 of the drum, or only partially inwards towards the hub, the inner periphery in this case being supported by radial spokes. The radial faces of the pair of pressings may be disposed in parallel relationship. In further embodiments, Figs. 3 and 4, the outer pressing 31 or 32 is concave or convex. Drum supporting rods 30 are received in holes 28 in the pressings. In the case of concave or convex pressings, the holes 28 are formed in flat face portions 33 of circular shape. The rods 30 are secured by bolts 34. The outer peripheral rim may be of arcuate axial section. The pressings are preferably welded in assembled condition.
