A reeling-unreeling device for cables 9 of displaceable carriages or machines comprises a reeling drum 8 and a motor 1 driving an element 3 of at least one magnetic-effect coupling whose other element 4 is connected to the driving system e.g. a reduction gear 5 of the drum 8. The magnetic coupling may be of the powderfilled type e.g. with a ferromagnetic powder between the elements. The driving element 3 may be provided with cooling fins. In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic couplings 3, 4 and 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> are enclosed in a sealed casing 10. The magnetic-effect coupling ensures that a constant torque is applied to the cable drum irrespective of the amount of cable on the drum.
