Abstract

1,258,634. Photo-sensitive materials. HORIZONS RESEARCH Inc. Jan. 21, 1969 [May 9, 1968], No.3378/69. Heading G2C. A photo-sensitive composition comprises (1) a photolytic organic halogen compound, (2) an arylamine and/or a styryl dye base or vinyl homologue thereof of formula: - wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or benzyl, R<SP>11</SP> is H or cyano, d and n are 1 or 2 and m is 1-3 but the sum of m and n is not more than 4 and e completes a 5- or 6-membered nucleus, (3) a polynuclear hydrocarbon and/or a binuclear merocyanine to enhance the sensitivity and, optionally (4) a triaryl compound of phosphorus, arsenic, antimony or bismuth and/or a stabilizer. Rubrene is the specified hydrocarbon whereas 3-ethyl-5-[1-methyl-4(1u)-quinoylidene)- ethylidene]-rhodanine and 2-[(3-ethyl-2(3u)- benzoxazolylidine)-2-butenylidene]-1,3 indanedione are the specified dyes; these dyes also extend the sensitivity into the red.
