Abstract

1,258,224. Panel structure. PLASTEEL PRODUCTS CORP. 27 May, 1970, No. 25455/ 70. Heading E1W. Rigid hollow sheet metal panels are formed from a stainless steel facing panel 4 and an aluminium liner panel 3, the latter having parallel longitudinal flanges 10, 11 one of which being turned outwardly to form one side of a tongue 14 the other being turned inwardly and formed into an outwardly directed channel 22. The facing panel 4 has along one edge a similarly formed channel 23 which engages into the channel 22 separated therefrom by a vinyl plastics sealing strip with engaging ribs adhered to the outside of channel 23 by a butyl rubber adhesive along the opposite edge the facing panel has an outwardly projecting part forming the other side of the tongue 14. The two tongue sides are separated by a vinyl sealing strip integral at one end with oppositely directed end sealing parts 18 in turn integral with an extended strip part with a flexible hollow bead 20 on the outside face of the tongue part of the facing panel. Arranged to seal against the inside of the channel of an adjacent panel. The two panels 3, 4 are secured together by staples or self-tapping screws through the base of the channel parts. To allow for differential thermal expansion of the composite panel these fixings may be only in the middle of each longitudinal tongue or channel. The composite panels may be filled with insulating material 29, the liner panel may have strengthening longitudinal grooves 5 and the panels are fixed by means of bolts 7 through a longitudinal reverse turned flange 8 extending parallel to the back of the liner panel into horizontal girts 1 in turn fixed to vertical columns (not shown). The panels may extend longitudinally storey high.
