A ball mill has grinding chambers 2a, b, c, d, Fig. 3, arranged about a common rotational axis 1, with their closed circumferential walls each comprising a first section 21 extending over an angle greater than 180‹ and curved concavely and a second section 22 which may be curved or straight, the second section being disposed in the region of the outer half of each grinding chamber wall (relative to the central axis 1 of rotation). An armour-plate lining having a roof-shaped profile, 23, Fig. 4 or a lining having raised portions, Fig. 5, may be fitted.
