Abstract
1,257,825. Olefin copolymers. CHEMISCHE WERKE BUNA VEB. 10 April, 1969, No. 18536/69. Heading C3P. A polar unsaturated olefin copolymer derived from the following monomers: (a) ethylene up to 75% by weight; (b) a 1-olefin other than ethylene or mixture of such 1-olefins up to 90% by weight; (c) 0À5-80% by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic derivative or its saponification product or a mixture of such derivatives or saponification products; (d) 0-25% by weight of a di- or polyene or mixture of di- or polyenes with the proviso that component (d) is present only if component (c) contains only one carbon-carbon double bond in the molecule, the percentages being based on the total weight of monomers, is produced by polymerizing the monomers in the presence of an organometallic mixed catalyst under known polymerization conditions, component (c) being used in the form of a complex with a Lewis acid such as aluminium chloride. In Examples (1) and (2), an ethylene - propylene - dicyclopentadieneethyl acrylate copolymer is prepared by saturating a solution of dicyclopentadiene in benzine with a mixture of ethylene and propylene, adding a complex formed from aluminium chloride and ethyl acrylate and polymerizing in the presence of ethyl aluminium sesquichloride and vanadium oxytrichloride. Example (3) describes the production of ethylene-propylene-allyl acrylate copolymer and Example (4) the production of ethylene - propylene - dicyclopentadiene - acrylonitrile copolymer by equivalent processes.
