Abstract

A valve for regulating the pressure of town gas flowing into a consumer's installation from a high pressure supply main, comprises a housing 10, a separately formed duct 21 with a valve seat 43, a closure member 35 carried by diaphragms 24 and 27, a filter element 53 communicating with the duct 21 through a port 49, an inlet 20 port leading into the housing 10, and an outlet 46. The space between the diaphragms 24 and 27 communicates with the outlet through the passage 47, the threads of a screw 39, and an orifice 48. Gas entering the housing 10 passes radially through the filter element 53 and then through the port 49 and valve seat 43 to the outlet. The outlet pressure acts on the diaphragm 27, as explained, and thereby adjusts the position of the closure member 35 so as to give a constant pressure, the magnitude of which is predetermined by the adjustable loading of the diaphragm with a spring 33. The diaphragm 24 regulates the inlet pressure and may be omitted if desired. The construction of the valve is such that it lends itself to manufacture from metal pressings as well as die-casting. The casing 10 may be square or cylindrical with the duct 21 extending perpendicularly thereto, or may be cylindrical with an axially extending duct therethrough.
