Abstract

1,257,684. Tobacco-smoke filters. CELFIL CO. ETAB. 19 Nov., 1969 [3 Dec., 1968], No. 56730/69. Heading A2C. Filter plugs for cigarettes, cigars &c., of the kind in which granulated or powdery material 18 is housed in chambers 15 formed between sections of smoke permeable material 11, 12, are made by inserting the material 18 in the previously formed chambers 15 in the form of enveloped cartridges 16, the cartridges 16 being cut from an endless rope containing the material 18 in an envelope 17, both ends of each cartridge 16 being at first closed but made permeable to smoke prior to, during or subsequent to insertion in the associated chamber 15. The envelope 17 may be formed of thermoplastic material, such as polyvinyl chloride, which after filling with the material 18 is then constricted and heat sealed at points 22-26. Either the sealed ends of the cartridges 16 are cut off to form openings 19, 20, and/or perforations 21 are provided in their end walls. The smoke permeable material 11, 12 may be a conventional rolled paper or cellulose acetate fibre filter element.
