Abstract
1,257,434. Printing apparatus. BURROUGHS CORP. 5 June, 1970 [20 June, 1969], No. 27210/70. Heading B6C. Cheques are endorsed in a printer comprising a vertically mounted segmental shaped head 14 carrying a printing plate 61, Fig. 2, andnumbering and dating wheels 64, 62 and a vertically mounted platen roller 68, Fig. 5, mounted in a frame pivotable about a horizontal axis the roller being supported in eccentric bearings for the purpose of adjusting its pressure relative to the plate 61. The head 14 is mounted on a vertical shaft 12, Fig. 1, which also mounts a flywheel 16, a clutch 48 and brake means 18 the clutch ensuring single revolution operation of the head whilst the brake means is used to stop the head after each operative revolution. The wheels 62, 64 and plate 61 are inked by a vertically mounted inking roller 66, Fig. 4, supplied from a vertically mounted reservoir roller comprising a casing containing a mass of ink absorbent medium 78. After adjustment the platen roller is locked in position by a toggle device 164 and the printer is constructed as a unit readily removable from a cabinet containing other apparatus such as document guide means 136, 139, 140, Fig. 2, concerned with the rapid and expeditious endorsement of used cheques. The unit may be placed within the cabinet to the right or left of the document flow path as shown in Fig. 2.
