Abstract

1,257,323. Transistor monostable circuit. ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd. 6 March, 1970 [7 Dec., 1968], No. 58236/68. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G1] A control circuit for a flash point detector, in which a liquid is heated until its flash point is reached, cooled and then the cycle repeated, comprises a monostable circuit including transistors 24 and 25. During heating of the liquid transistors 24 and 25 are conducting and output buffer amplifier is switched on to actuate a heater. At the same time, transistor 33 is switched on and capacitor 37 is thus charged up through transistor 33. When the flash point of the liquid is reached ignition takes place and a pulse produced in an ionization detector is introduced to the control circuit at I/P to switch off transistors 24 and 25 and hence the heater, the liquid then cooling. Transistor 33 is also switched off and charging of capacitor 37 ceases. Capacitor 26 discharges until the potential at the control electrode of transistor 24 becomes positive with respect to the potential at the control electrode of transistor 38 which is set by capacitor 37, and then transistors 24 and 25 are switched on and the heater again actuated. As transistor 25 begins to conduct a positive transient voltage is applied to monostable circuit 34 causing it to be switched off for approximately one second during which time transistor 36 conducts to partially discharge the capacitor 37. Thus during a long heating period capacitor 37 becomes highly charged and the following cooling period is consequently short since the control electrode of transistor 24 quickly becomes more positive than that of transistor 38. During a short heating period the capacitor 37 becomes less highly charged and is consequently followed by a longer cooling period.
