Abstract

1,257,139. Pistons. APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc. 8 June, 1970 [17 June, 1969], No. 27668/70. Heading F2T. The plunger 24 of an hydraulic ram is packed by means comprising a backing washer 40 abutting a shoulder 30 on the plunger and having its end face 52 remote from the shoulder 30 formed with an annular groove 54 and a cup seal ring 60 which is deformed and held in compressed resting engagement with the washer 40 by securing means, e.g. nut 86, on the plunger. A washer 84 is located between the ring 60 and the nut 86. The backing washer 40 is of polymeric material such as nylon, p.t.f.e., polypropylene or polyethylene and the seal ring 60 is of elastomeric material such as rubber.
