Abstract
1,256,797. Controlling clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 27 Feb., 1970 [26 March, 1969], No. 15776/69. Heading F2L. [Also in Division G3] A fluid-pressure servomotor for actuating a vehicle clutch has a pedal-operated master cylinder 44 which supplies hydraulic pressure to the small diameter end 14 of a spring- loaded stepped piston (13) acting on the clutch thrust bearing and simultaneously operates a valve 23 to connect a pneumatic (or hydraulic) pressure source 42 to a chamber (18) via open valve 29 and port 40 so as to act on the annular surface of the stepped piston in the same direction as the master cylinder pressure. Reduction in master cylinder pressure causes valve 29 to close and seat 34 to move away from valve 33 to connect port 40 to atmosphere via bores 35, 36 and outlet 38. Valve 33 is aligned with plunger 25 by cruciform guide 39 moving in bore 35 or a disc moving in enlargement 30. Master cylinder 44 may be replaced by a valve controlling flow from an hydraulic or pneumatic pressure source.
